Tell it like it is

OK, it’s what we do, but it still makes me sad that when I'm introduced to and shake hands with a stranger, as when I tell them that I'm in marketing, they count their fingers. It’s annoying on two fronts. Firstly, the marketers in the Moose Herd are all going to be tarred with the same brush as those others who are clearly not endowed with much in the way of scruples – see blogs passim on some outrageous claims made particularly by some television advertisers – and seem blithely to continue until they are rumbled. Bit like bankers, really. Secondly, I don’t like liars and I do like sleeping nights which means we’d rather be truthful about our clients’ products or services.

The fact is, you can either try and blind the public with science – or quackery – and hope you don’t get rumbled, or you can work hard; be imaginative and market properly. Marketing without the bull, as it were. Still sceptical? We believe we do ‘what it says on the tin’. Touché.
