Search and getting found
You'll have done this in the past - clicked on a link and found yourself on a page that is of no relevance at all. Search engines are getting better at dismissing these kinds of search results, and this has an impact on the content you need to deliver on your own site.
Website Content
Clearly you want to provide lots of information about your products and services. That's fine, but is that what your potential clients are going to be searching for? Are they searching for the ubiquitous rangat valve, or something to stop their washing machine leaking?
Think about each page as though you're someone who's performed a search, then ended up on this page. Does the content reflect the title? Is there enough content there to keep your interest? Is it set out so that you can scan through the content to get the gist of what it's about?
Search engines try to replicate the way people use them, so you're more likely to be higher up in the results if you do a better job of delivering what people are searching for than competitive pages.
Links
Links from other sites in to your pages are very important. Think of it like a popularity contest. If there's lots of people (pages) that recommend you (link to you) then you must be pretty good. And if the sites that are linking to yours are themselves very popular you'll receive their reflected glory.
