Find Me!

It may seem blindingly obvious that all businesses want and need to be found on the internet, so what, you may ask, is the point of this article? Well, whether you need to be found really depends on just who you want to be found by.

If you're a manufacturer of moose-hoof trimmers then it's probable that you already know all the wildlife parks that form your target market. Whereas if you sell domestic light bulbs, then your ideal customer is going to be any householder - a huge list of prospective clients.

So the specialist in personal grooming for moose probably shouldn't be spending a lot of time or money on SEO or online advertising. This business needs to have a professional web presence, and possibly an online shop so that customers can find out all about relevant products. They'll either know your business already, or you'll be speaking with them directly and directing them to your site.

However, the home lighting emporium will need to invest in promoting their site online if that is, or will be, a significant sales channel for them.

The irony is that in practical terms, the trimmer company would find it a lot quicker and cheaper to "get found" online than the lighting company. This is simply due to competition. While the number of animal trimmer businesses is small, there's a much higher probability for their website's content to be shown near the top of any search engine results list for a relevant query.

So if you're more like the light bulb company you'll need to spend more time and/or money on the problem. But don't be tempted by those emails that promise you'll be at the no. 1 slot of Google within the week. Any promises like that will just bring you more trouble and considerably less traffic.
